After a positive or refused drug or alcohol screen, it is required of DOT employees to be evaluated by a DOT certified SAP (Substance Abuse Professional). The first step is the initial assessment, during which your SAP will assess your individual situation and determine if substance abuse issues exist.

This may include an online educational course, counseling, inpatient or outpatient therapy, support groups, etc. The employee must complete all recommended program(s) before returning to work.
